The FUNKY MONKS is Adelaide’s own and Original Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute show, having had an amazing amount of success and creating a great fan base. Formed in 1992 to pay tribute to outrageous LA funk rock outfit RHCP’s, the first show was an after concert party in Adelaide, playing to a packed house at the The Venue, Hindley Street, Adelaide after the RHCP’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik tour concert, the band had some surprise guests, they were none other than Chad Smith (RHCP drummer) and Arik Marshall (RHCP then guitarist) getting up and jamming on stage with the Funky Monks and giving their approval. “you guys play our licks alright” Chad Smith (Drummer, RHCP’s) The Venue Adelaide Oct 15 1992After 30 plus years of playing local, country and interstate shows and music festivals alongside bands such as Birds of Tokyo, The Superjesus, Jebadiah, and Body Jar just to name a few, The Funky Monks have maintained the original line up all this time and continue to entertain and amaze punters with their high energy and massive sound recreating the Chili Peppers vast catalogue from the early days to all the recent radio tracks. The live show is full surprises with random funky jams, hard hitting thunderous Chad Smith style drumming, Funky Flea slap bass, and uncanny Anthony vocals to a guitarist who can smash out those well recognized Chili Peppers riffs. Each show has everything from sing along radio classics, acoustic section for a change of pace, random covers and even some trumpet to add some funky brass; you never know what you’ll get at each show. “This was one of the best live shows I have ever seen, check them out!” Joe Mac (NetGigs) The Gov Oct 6 2018The Funky Monks are not impersonators, but are fans paying tribute to the music of the LA foursome which they love and it shows in the energy and passion they put in each show!
